My Facebook community voted jeans as their favorite fall item of clothing. And why not? A great pair of jeans can be dressed up or down, worn for a variety of occasions, and with the right fit, can make you feel like a million bucks. Leg styles and washes come and go as far as trends are concerned, so today we are going to look at the top denim trends for fall 2024.
Fall 2024 Denim Trends
1 Wide leg
Jeans- Gap/similar; shirt- Old Navy/similar shoes- Gap
The wide leg jeans/pants trend became popular last fall, continued this spring and is still going strong for fall 2024. It’s likely the most popular and modern leg style. You can find wide leg jeans in both cropped and full length styles. You can also find them in exaggeratedly wide silhouettes or a lot less wide. There is a width out there for almost every body type.
Wide leg jeans can be particularly flattering to pear shapes. Remember to wear shorter tops, or tuck in shirts. The top I’m wearing above could be a bit shorter but is still okay worn out. I would not go longer than this with an untucked top.
This silhouette of jeans works with a variety of shoes from sneakers to pointed toe heels or flats to boots.
2 Relaxed Straight Leg Jeans

Straight leg jeans will always be classic. The modern spin on straight leg jeans is to wear them in a relaxed fit. While you can find cropped, ankle length and full length pairs, the trend is leaning more towards full length styles reminiscent of the 90s.
Wear them with a number of shoe options, from flats and sneakers to ankle boots. Straight leg jeans work for all body types.
3 Dark Wash
Jeans- Old Navy; top- Amazon similar; sneakers- DSW
One wash or another always takes the stage and this year it’s dark wash denim. As styles and trends continue toward more polished and refined pieces, dark wash denim comes to the forefront. Dark washes give denim a more polished and tailored look. The wash is particularly easy to dress up and it’s slimming too.
4 Flare/ Bootcut
Flares vs bootcut? What is the difference? Flared jeans gradually get wider starting at or after the knees. Bootcut jeans are similar in that they also get wider from the knee down to accommodate a pair of boots, but the flare is not as wide or dramatic as flared jeans.
Flared leg jeans are still quite popular, especially in the cropped version, often called a kick crop. This style is particularly flattering to pear shapes.
Flare leg jeans work best with heels and boots, but you can also wear sneakers and flats with them.
5 Seamed/ pintucked
Jeans- Loft; Blouse-similar ; shoes- Nordstrom
Front seam details and pintuck details are showing up on many denim styles. The long center seam can help visually lengthen the legs. It also gives a more refined and polished look on most pairs that feature this detail. Style them with tops and shoes that work with their overall leg silhouette.
6 Wide cuff
Tshirt- Old Navy; vest- Amazon; Jeans- Loft; purse- Amazon; shoes- similar
Another super trendy look is a wide cuff on straight leg and wide leg jeans. It’s definitely more in the “fad” category and I would not expect this one to last for years to come. However, it can be a fun way to add some flair to your outfits, so if it works for you, go for it. As a petite, it’s been difficult for me to find a pair of cuffed jeans, but I didn’t give up and this pair from Loft finally hit the mark.
7 Barrel leg
Sweater- Old Navy; jeans- Banana Republic Factory Jeans- Amazon; shoes- Nordstrom
The legs on this silhouette flare fluidly to the knees and then bend back in on themselves. Also called lantern, or horseshoe style, you will notice a dart placed at the knee of these jeans that help create the shape. It’s certainly not for everyone but will be fun for the most fashion forward. As with wide leg jeans, you can find them with really full legs or with a minimal flare.
Wear with slim fitting tops or tuck tops to maintain a waistline and keep the shape.
8 Denim skirt
Jacket- Amazon; tshirt- Old Navy; skirt- similar; boots- Amazon
The denim midi and maxi skirt is still going strong. Western wear or cowboy vibes are slipping in as well, so a denim skirt goes perfectly with that micro trend. Even if western wear isn’t your thing, you can find a way to wear a denim skirt. It can be part of a classic wardrobe or sporty style personality. While longer denim skirts are trending, you can still be on trend in a shorter denim skirt if you are petite. Do what works for you.
9 Denim dresses
Denim dresses are also everywhere. And you can find a denim dress to fit almost any style personality. Some have western vibes, some have romantic vibes, while others can be dressed up or down for lady like or sporty vibes. Find a denim dress that suits your body type and rock this trend with ease.
10 Cropped and ankle length
Cropped and ankle length jeans are still on trend, and they can be found in all of the silhouettes discussed above. While the trends may be moving toward full length jeans, cropped and ankle length jeans are still modern. They work with almost any shoe as well, especially ankle length jeans.
Which denim trends will you be embracing this fall? Regardless of the style of denim you choose, make sure you get a great fit with these tips.
