While it’s still hot as blazes outside here, it’s time to start thinking about fall wardrobes. Fall pieces are coming into the stores and everyone is beginning to talk about what will be trending. The easiest place to start transitioning to fall or to get fall vibes for those of us that are stuck with hot weather well into October is color, so today I’m taking a look at the top fall 2025 fashion color trends.
The Top Colors for Fall Fashion 2025
Chocolate Brown

Left to Right: Long Sleeve Tee; Cropped Cardigan; Puff Sleeve Top; Sweater Vest; Wide Leg Jean; Ponte Pants; Suede Ankle Boots; Perfect tank; Suede Mary Janes
We can’t miss the elephant in the room, can we? This has been a trend during summer and will be even bigger this fall. Treat it as a neutral and pair it with other neutrals, like creams, camel and navy. Or if your style is bold, you can pair it with greens, pinks and yellows. The Pantone NYFW Autumn/Winter color palette includes hot chocolate and French roast in it’s browns.
Wear it:
Burgundy

Left to right: Ruffle blouse; short sleeve cardigan; mock neck knit dress; cropped blazer; puff sleeve t-shirt; sling back pump; shoulder bag; wide leg pants; straight leg jeans; Mary Jane flats
While not part of the Pantone NYFW pallete, burgundy is everywhere for fall. It’s generally a classic fall colors, but it’s popularity rises and falls. Pair it with all the neutrals- black, ivory, navy, grey, beige and camel. Also pair it with blush pink, olive and leopard.
Wear it:
Pair a burgundy cable knit cardigan with camel trousers for an early fall work look. Add a pop of leopard in your bag- leopard pairs well with burgundy too. Sub olive or navy trousers for camel and leave the rest of the look exactly the same, if camel isn’t a color you gravitate too. If pairing with grey, I’d switch to a black purse.
Brandied Melon

Dress; sleeveless top; t-shirt; square neck top; button trousers; cardigan; cropped patch pocket pants; headband; ballet flats
A muted orange on the pantone palette. It’s a warm tone that will be welcomed by those with true autumn coloring. You may find this color by searching for “rust”, spice or cinnamon. All of these shades are trending.
Pair it with camel, taupe, khaki, chocolate brown, navy, and olive.
Wear it:
Damson/ Mauve Wine/ Plum

Cardigan; blouse; dress; pants; sweater; dress; pumps
The first two colors are on the Pantone list, and look as if they belong in the plum family. Plum is great for wearing with greys and taupe, but you can also wear it with navy or pinks.
Wear it:
Primrose pink/ dusty pink

Pointelle sweater; shell; flutter sleeve sweater; lace trim top; sweater; jeans; sneakers; skirt
A great way to sweeten up chocolate brown or grey and make the look more feminine. This color is also great with plum and burgundy. You can find this in warm and cool tones.
Wear it:
Frog Green

Sweater; blazer; earrings, striped tee; purse; skirt; patch pocket pants; wide leg trousers; skirt
Greens will be on the scene for fall. Frog green is a lively, medium-to-bright green with a slightly yellow undertone, but as you can see from my board, it’s a little hard to pin down at mainstream retailers.
Olive is always a classic green for fall- frog green is a little brighter and warmer than olive. Fern green is another trending spin on green. Wear your greens with navy, grey, and chocolate brown.
Wear it:
Blues

Satin blouse; popover top; blazer; sweater; blouse; dress; ballet flats; hat
Blues will continue to be popular for fall. Pantone is introducing a color called Lyons blue- a deeply tinted teal. It is not easily found at retailers yet, but I would predict it will arrive for winter. Pair it with grey, black, cream and even chocolate brown.
Navy is trending for fall too- especially in shoes.
Wear it:
Red

Pants; bow cardigan; top; sweater jacket; striped sweater; sheer socks; sweater; cardigan; sneakers
Red was trending last fall and this summer. It’s not going away, but may deepen into a spicier chilli powder red. There are three versions of red in the Pantone fall color palette for this season, but I’m not seeing it in retailers new arrivals as much yet. My personal prediction is that it is not going to be as big this year as last fall and this summer.
Wear it:
Grape purple
Brighter and bolder than plum, purple is predicted to be a strong color for fall. It’s not popping up excessively yet, but a good color to watch and look for. Wear it with navy, grey, and olive.

Knit shirt; animal print shirt; sweatshirt; sweater; sneakers

Which fall 2025 fashion color trends will you be embracing this fall? I love them all!
