The 7 Chicest Colors to Wear This Fall

If you are a traditionalist about color like I am, you will be happy to know that the trending colors for fall fashion 2024 have made a return to the earthy, warm rich colors we generally associate with fall. No bright crazy colors like we had in years past. I’m not complaining about those nontraditional colors. It was fun to change things up, but I also love all the fall feels and that means cozy fall colors too.

Switching to fall colors is usually the first way to embrace a fall wardrobe. It stays too warm for many of us for lots of cozy sweaters and heavier materials like corduroy and such, but we can wear on trend jeans, skirts, and tops or t-shirts in fall colors.

The Trending Colors for Fall Fashion 2024

Tomato Cream

This is one of the Pantone NYFW colors, and much like it sounds, it is a color reminiscent of creamy tomato soup, with a little more brown in it. Pantone describes it as “a nourishing, toasty hue that warms the soul.”

Pair it with darker brown colors, cream, burgundy and navy.

Chocolate Brown

This isn’t one of the Pantone colors, but still very prevalent in stores. It made an appearance as a surprise summer color this year and will continue into fall.

Pair it with all neutrals, red oranges, navy, red, greens, and black.

Red

Red generally makes the top of the list for fall colors. This year’s Pantone versions are called Red Orange and Scarlet. If you have warm skin tones, Red Orange is for you. If you have cool tones, go with the Scarlet red.

We are also seeing a lot of burgundy in stores, so if that’s more your color, go for it.

Pair either shade with cream, grey, black or navy.

Greens

All shades of green are hitting the stores for fall. The two Pantone greens are Aventurine- a vibrant emerald shade, and Fern- a leafy green closer to olive. Given the number of green clothing available, you shouldn’t have any trouble finding one you can wear.

Pair green with blues, browns and pinks.

Plum

The Pantone color is Italian Plum, a deep dark purple. This one is also very prevalent in stores. Pair it with other shades of purple, navy and dark grey for a chic look.

Blue

If there is a wildcard in the mix, it’s blue for fall. Pantone’s Winter Sky is a light cool blue that has been trending the past couple of fall/winter seasons.

Pair it with cream, navy, grey, brown, black, and plum.

Grey

Two shades of grey are among the Pantone Fall colors, a dark grey and a light grey. You should not have any trouble finding grey in stores.

Pair it with white, black, camel and other neutrals. Pair it with any of the other trending fall colors.

What To Do If These Colors Aren’t Flattering to You

Don’t wear a color just because it’s trendy if it makes you look horrible. Stick with the colors that make you look your best and that you feel good in.

Wear them in small doses in prints. If a color is overwhelming or draining to you in a solid, find a print with a background color that flatters you and still contains one of these fall colors.

Wear it on the bottom. If you love a color, but it doesn’t love you back, wear it on the bottom half and pair it with a color or neutral on top that flatters you. Just remember that saturated colors look best with other saturated colors and muted or soft colors look best with other muted or soft colors.

Wear color in your shoes or accessories. If red is too much for you, wear it on your feet. Red flats and sneakers will be very trendy this fall, as will plum and burgundy shoes and accessories.
