It’s definitely sweater season right now! A sweater is the perfect piece to grab to stay warm, but you might as well make it fun and stylish, right?
There are endless possibilities to chose from when it comes to fun and functional sweaters this year. Today I’m sharing 9 styles of sweaters that are trending and have earned a spot in my closet.
1. The Scarf Sweater
Some come with the scarf attached and others come with it detached, but scarf sweaters are everywhere this season. I’m all about a great matching 2 for 1 option. The scarf sweater is the piece that instantly elevates your outfit and makes it look more expensive. I’m also including those that have shoulder wraps and look like you have another sweater draped over your shoulders. These make the look easy and you don’t have to worry about the second sweater falling off.
This v-neck sweater has an attached scarf. Which direction you wrap the scarf is up to you. It looks great paired with jeans and boots.

This scarf sweater has the detachable overlay/ shoulder wrap that looks like you are wearing a sweater over your sweater. The fine knit is perfect for completing a polished outfit with a silk or satin midi slip skirt.

2. The Funnel Neck Sweater
The funnel neck sweater (and sweatshirts) have trumped the basic crew neck this season. The funnel neck is taller than the mock neck and features a high, upright collar that extends up the neck, without folding over like a turtleneck.
I think they look better on those with longer necks, unless the funnel is shorter. Pair them with jeans, or as I did here, with trousers for a more elevated look. Pairing the sweater with trousers and sneakers gives it an elevated but still laid back vibe.

3. The Quarter zip sweater
The quarter zip lives in that sweet spot between a sweater and a sweatshirt. It’s casual enough for daily wear but polished enough that you don’t feel underdressed if plans change. The zipper detail creates a vertical line that naturally elongates your torso and adds visual interest without needing prints, ruffles, or extra styling effort. You also get to control the neck line. Zip it all the way up for full polish, or part of the way for casual vibes.

I prefer it partially tucked, but for those who have said they will never understand that tuck, here it is fully untucked.
4. The hooded sweater
Just as cozy as a hooded sweatshirt, but more polished, the hooded sweater is one to have in your closet. Instead of a hoodie and sweatpants, try a hooded cotton sweater with track pants and layer a long coat over the top. Instant polish.

5. The Classic Crewneck Cardigan
The classic crewneck cardigan will always be in style. The modern way to wear it is as a top. Whether you go this route or layer it over a top, a classic crewneck cardigan is a must have.

Argyle and Fair Isle
These are the must have prints of the season. Fair Isle is always a winter classic but has been trending this season. Choose one or both of these prints for a fun way to update your sweater collection.
6. Argyle
Argyle is popular with those who love preppy style. It’s classic but designers have played with color and scale to modernize it and made it appealing to those who also like to make a statement.

7. Fair Isle
Fair Isle is quintessentially winter. It’s another classic that’s trending and you won’t have to look hard to find a fair isle sweater or cardigan. Find it in playful, colorful patterns or in muted or neutral pallets.

8. Polo and Collared Sweaters
With the comfort of a knit and the structure of a collar, these sweaters are the best of both worlds. They make simple outfits look intentional. They can be preppy or more refined.
This collared sweater doubles as a two-fer as far as trends go- it incorporates a fair isle pattern.

9. Ruanas and wraps
Effortlessly layer these over an outfit for polish. The ruana is basically a poncho with an opening in the front. Wear them open, belt them or fasten them with a brooch. Some versions come belted.
