Red is a very dominant color but can appropriately find it’s place in the work arena. The color red has many associations- energy, excitement, love, passion, power, transformation, aggression, and anger. It’s definitely a color that draws attention.

It’s stimulating and can be used to motivate one to action; however, too much of it can leave one on the negative end, being overstimulated and agitated.

The key to wearing a red blazer in the work place is to let it be the one statement piece of your outfit and pair it with other neutral or conservative pieces or colors.

I’ve had this particular blazer for years, so it has made many appearances on the blog. I’ve almost exclusively worn it with black because the liner of this blazer is gray and black striped and shows when I cuff the sleeves, which I almost always do.

Mentally, I have a hard time pairing it with other colors like blue or navy because of the cuffs. I’ve recently purchased a “new to me” red blazer from Express via Thred Up and it’s solid red. I’m sure you will start seeing it soon and with colors other than black.

I decided to challenge myself this time and wear something other than black. I went with light grey pants and a white blouse.

I could have chosen black shoes but those seemed a little too stark and harsh against the light colors of this outfit, so I went with grey snakeskin pumps. I also accessorized with my snakeskin purse and silver jewelry. I’ve been wearing mostly gold jewelry, but the lightness of this outfit seemed to call for silver.

Do you ever let your outfit “speak” to you when deciding on the finishing touches?
