August Prime Purchases and What I Read Lately

After a huge spending spree during Prime Days in July, August was a relatively slow month for Amazon purchases.

What I Primed in August

I had an eye exam at the beginning of August and needed to go up a strength in readers. Actually, I needed to go up for close up and add a slightly lesser strength for the computer screen. I don’t care for trying on readers in the store, so I ordered from Amazon. I ordered several pair and returned the ones I didn’t like.

Since I’m relying on readers a little more these days, I bought three pair for close up- one for work, one for home and one for my purse.

I love the quality and style of the Sofia Vergara readers I had previously so I went with these again.

The Linda Square Reading Glasses

and the Gloria square in grey leopard and Linda in turqouise.

I also got a five pack of blue light blocking readers in the lower strength that I needed. They have fun stylish colors.

Beauty Products

I’ve been watching you tuber and Instagram influencer Sharalees Box of Chocolates. I was influenced to try some new make up products from her videos. Most of them just came in so I will have to give you a better report next month on how well I like them.

Honest Beauty Talc-Free Translucent Loose Setting Powder | Invisible, Matte Finish

I’ve been using the same setting powder for years but when I saw this one from Honest I decided to give it a try. I already use Honest Hydrogel Cream Moisturizer and love it. Honest products are clean and safer than others. The setting powder really does blur fine lines and leaves a perfect matter finish to your makeup.

Pimoys 6 Pieces Powder Puff Face Soft Triangle Makeup Puffs for Loose/ Mineral Powder

I’m also loving these puffs for applying the powder vs using a brush.

IT Cosmetics Confidence in a Cream Anti Aging Face Moisturizer

This wasn’t a recommendation from Sharalee but a product I found in my stash of samples. I used to get Ipsy bags and free samples with Ulta orders but had to back off from using and trying products for a year or so due to allergies. Now that I have the allergies figured out, I’m going back through my stash and trying new things.

I’ve only been using this cream at night but it’s amazing. It’s like wearing a mask to bed and it makes my skin feel so soft.

Vehicle Care

We are still working on 1997 Jeep TJ restoration. The hubby ordered several products for the Jeep and for washing and cleaning it. The most amazing purchase was this:

303 Convertible Fabric Top Cleaning and Care Kit – Cleans And Protects Fabric Tops

and this:

Bestop 1121300 8-oz. Vinyl Window Cleaner/Polish

303 Products Convertible Top Brush

Our Jeep top was faded and dirty. Instead of black, it looked grey. Now it looks brand new! One of the neighbors even stopped and commented on how good it looks!

What I Read Lately

I know many of you used to enjoy this feature on the blog but my reading slowed down and a separate post for books wasn’t really doing anyting for my rankings or traffic. I do still enjoy reading and sharing books with you so here’s what I’ve read lately. I forgot to include this last month so this combines July and August.

It took me over a month of reading and listening to an audioversion, but I finally finished Cocoa Beach by Beatriz Williams . It passed the time just fine, but it didn’t really suck me in as evidenced by the length of time it took me to read it. It’s historical fiction with some twists at the end.

Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover

Collen Hoover never disappoints. I read this on Kindle Unlimited during our flight from Wyoming in July.

Sydney finds out her best friend and roommate is cheating with her boyfriend. She has no where to go so the mysterious neighbor across the way invites her into his apartment. What was a unique friendship grows into something more, but not without a bit of guilt along the way. 5 stars

Maybe Not by Colleen Hoover

A short novella giving the back story of Warren and Bridgett from the first book Maybe Someday. 5 stars

Maybe Now by Collen Hoover

The story of Maggie from Maybe Someday. If I give too many details, I’ll spoil book one. Just know that all of these characters are adorable and you will want to inhale all of the series. 5 stars

Buy Yourself the F*cking Lillies by Tara Schuster

I bought this in December 2020 and just got around to reading it in July. I’ve been trying to read one book a month that is in my stack or on my Kindle.

“The story of Tara’s path to re-parenting herself and becoming a “ninja of self-love.” Through simple, daily rituals, Tara transformed her mind, body, and relationships.” The book was worth the read but a bit too long for me. And she could have skipped some of the foul language.

The overall point is a good one- life is short and you need to treat yourself (responsibly) to things you want and enjoy. 3 stars

I listened to the audio version of the Magnolia Inn by Carolyn Brown in May.

I haven’t read a bad Carolyn Brown book yet. Joleene inherits her aunt and uncle’s inn but ends up with a partner with half interest. Joleene is dealing with guilt and issues of her deceased alcoholic mother and Tucker is drowning his grief over his wife’s death in alcohol every weekend. In spite of their issues, there are sparks between them. Can love conquer their demons. It’s a cute story mixed with emotion.

I also listened to the next Kate Burkholder book- Among The Wicked. This time Kate goes undercover in an Amish community to find out if the bishop is involved in wrongdoings. It gets pretty dicey for her before the gig is up.

Down a Dark Road by Linda Castillo

I really enjoy this series. This time Kate is kidnapped and held hostage by an old friend who has escaped from prison. He claims he is innocent of his wife’s murder and Kate takes on an investigation to find the truth. 5 stars

Be sure to also check out July’s Prime post. I posted it late last month but it’s full of great finds.

Linking up with Tanya.
