Welcome to 9 to 5 Style! The third Monday of every month Jennie of A Pocketful of Polka Dots and I will showcase a theme featuring our individual takes on a professional look. Our aim is to inspire and show professional style does not have to mean boring and without personality. We hope you enjoy our 9 to 5 Style!
This month’s theme is button up shirts. I noticed that Jennie has been talking about encouraging herself to wear hers more and I have been ignoring mine, so I thought this would be a fun theme for both of us. I chose to style the classic white button up shirt.

A button up shirt is always a great choice for the office. Button up shirts look great with or without another layer. I styled mine with a floral pencil skirt and navy blazer, but I’m also showing you how great a button up shirt stands on its own. It’s also a great work to weekend piece and can be worn casually.
If you have fit issues with a button up shirt, first consider if you are wearing a properly fitting bra. The foundation of an outfit can make all the difference in the world in fit. If you still have issues with gaping, sometimes double sided tape or fashion tape can help hold it in place. Check out this entertaining article on some other ways to deal with gaping.
