What I Wore To Work Lately: Sweaters

I’m back with another edition of What I Wore Lately. We have finally had some cold weather, so this edition carries a theme of sweaters for work wear.

These are my real life outfits. I wore them the day I photographed them. I consider some of them hits and some of them misses. A photo tells you so many more things than a glance in the mirror tells you.

If you want to develop your style, take a selfie and study it. Ask yourself- does this flow? Do these pieces have harmony? Do they really “go together?” What does this outfit say? Your outfits really do convey a message, whether you intend it or not, so take a minute to look at what you are wearing and make sure you are sending the message you want to send.

Enough of my soapbox. On to the outfits.

Back to work after the New Year’s Holiday- Navy blazer+plaid pants+cable knit sweater+ cognac boots

I always feel good in this blazer and I love these pants but I feel like I run out of ways to wear them. It was a cold day so I paired them with this cable knit sweater.

I’ve never worn these pieces together before. I guess I thought the sweater would be boring being that it’s just an off white sweater, but I really like the contrast and texture it provides. The cognac booties give the outfit a little more contrast.

Grey sweater + plaid blazer + navy ankle pants+ burgundy flats

It had been a while since I’d worn these navy pants or this blazer. There is a hint of navy and burgundy in the plaid of the blazer so it pulled the look together.

Tan suit + brown sweater + leopard boots

Sometimes it’s easiest to reach for a matching suit. Fun shoes like leopard boots and accessories like the belt keep it from being boring.

Black blazer + floral top + olive pants +snakeskin flats

I threw this together one morning when I had given no prior thought to what I was wearing. I love this top and pulled the olive from it for the pants. Adding a black blazer was the obvious choice.

When it came to shoes, I almost grabbed black loafers but saw the snakeskin and decided they made a nice contrast with the light colors in the top but still had enough dark tones to work.

I really liked this outfit when I was wearing it but it didn’t translate in the photo. Maybe it’s the fit/length of the pants. I have issues with ankle pants because I have large calves and slim ankle pants don’t always fall quite where they should.

Blazer + Sweater + ankle pants + ankle boots

I used to wear this sweater all the time and had almost forgotten about it. I pulled it out of my bin of sweaters (we don’t have enough sweater days for me to unpack all of them and put them in the closet so they stay in a bin year round) and went looking for pants to wear with them. Rust and grey is a pleasing combo to me.

It was cold enough to wear boots and I’ve seen lots of retailers styling ankle boots with cropped ankle pants but this was a first for me for a work wear outfit. I prefer the pants to come over the top of the boot like the plaid pants do in the first outftit above. As a rule pants should always stop above ankle boots and show a little skin or fall a little below the top. Technically, this works but there is something about it I’m second guessing now. It could be the camera angle messing with my perception.

Camel blazer +blush sweater + brown pants + ankle boots

I will always be happy with ankle boots under trouser pants, and pinks and browns together always make me happy. The sweater has a fun fringe trim so I snapped a pic without the blazer, which is how I wore the outfit most of the day inside the office.

Burgundy blazer + print top + camel pants + nude pumps

I saw this top hanging in the closet and it immediately jumped out at me that in needs to be worn with camel. I paired it with camel pants and a burgundy blazer. Next up with likely be the camel blazer with it and burgundy or black bottoms. This top is a newer purchase from Target so I’m still getting in a groove of styling it.

As you can see our temps fluctuate day to day, to the point it is boots one day and bare ankles the next. sweaters and then lighter layers. Use these outfits for inspiration in a way that works for you, even it it’s just finding a new color combination.
