Graphic tees became popular in the 50s but can be seen in the 1939 film “The Wizard of Oz” on workers sporting bright green tshirts with the word “oz” on them. Soldiers began to be issued shirts with their branch on them in WWII and kept wearing them mainstream after the war. Marlon Brando popularized the t-shirt as a garment of its own, when it had traditionally been an undergarment. The invention of Plastisol, an ink for screen printing gave designers more freedom with graphics. Bands and companies began realizing the marketing power of t-shirts.
Graphic tees today can be found in all types, sporting messages, inspirational sayings, images, logos and band promotions. It’s hard to be unfashionable with a graphic tee, no matter what type is your preference, but there are a few ways to step up your game with a graphic tee.
