Trend to Try: How to Wear a Slip Skirt 7 Ways

It’s time for another edition of “Trend to Try.” This week we are looking at the slip skirt. It’s a strong influence from the 90s but you can wear this trend again even if you are now over 40 and beyond. The slip skirt is one of the classiest styles and easily translates to mature adult outfits for those who find trends too young for them.

Slip dresses or slips and slip skirts or half-slips were once undergarments meant to make dresses and skirts skim the body more easily and make anything too sheer more modest. Along came an “underwear as outerwear” trend and slip dresses and slip skirts became popular. They come in a variety of colors and patterns, whereas their undergarment counterparts remain available in neutral colors.

Slip skirts come in silk or satin, or more affordable imitation materials and may require a little shapewear or special undergarments of their own to get a seamless look. Even with the requirement of shapewear, I find them to be one of the easiest skirts to wear as a petite pear. A silk skirt is slim but not too body hugging and usually in a midi skirt length, but without a the volume that can make a petite woman look frumpy.

Here are 7 ways to wear a slip skirt.

These slip skirt outfits range from edgy and casual to classic and dressy, showing how versatile a slip skirt can be. If you have been wondering what to wear with a slip skirt or how to wear a slip skirt in winter, the answer is here.

The slip skirt featured here is a leopard print skirt from Amazon. I’m wearing it in a medium.

Pair your skirt with a bright solid color vneck top or sweater and slinky sandals for a date night or for a holiday party. A red top is a classic go to for the Christmas holiday season, and you can revisit this outfit for Valentine’s Day.
